boom boom acka lacka boom boom

the monster has moved. i now have a new roommate who i have yet to meet. so far so good... she doesn't stay up all hours of the night and has yet to rant at me about toilet paper. instead of camping out in my room, i now walk about the house like i live here. imagine that.

once when i was fairly small, my mom went on a trip to see her parents in washington. liz, andy, and i were divided up and sent off to friends' houses for a week or so. i stayed with my best friend, shana. every morning we'd eat eggo waffles and down a flinstone vitamin. well, we were supposed to, but i'd wrap the mini-fred in my napkin and dump him when nobody was looking. shana's mom used paul mitchell hairspray that, to my young nose, smelled of heaven. shana's dad repaired arcade games and candy dispensers, and their basement was full of broken gumball machines. one wasn't broken, and i think i ate 50 gumballs that week. shana liked to play with dolls down there and made me play with dolls too. i wasn't thrilled. i just wanted to play in her room. she had a lacey canopy thing over her bed like someone from a movie, and i remember standing there watching her go through her jewellery box while amy grant sang "baby baby." i think i was jealous of her. she was spoiled, in my opinion. sometime after that she and i were playing up in my treehouse when she started acting all hoity-toity, so i climbed down through the trap door, locked it, and left her for a solid ten minutes as i sat watching her from my deck.

i have a home video of myself doing the dinosaur dance on that deck. open the door, get on the floor...

linguists consider "cellar door" to be the most beautiful words in the english language regarding phonoaesthetics. maybe my tongue is too fat, but they don't sound that great to me. i prefer "delicatessen." even so, "cellar door" seems appealing to me regarding semantics. ever since watching "the wizard of oz" and "places in the heart" when i was little, i always wanted a storm cellar. what would i do with a storm cellar? i have no idea. but i would LOVE to open and close those metal doors.

good riddens, monster. i shall leave my door open from now on.
