men are from mars, women are from venus, kids are a pain in uranus

i had a couple offers to celebrate the new year last night. i could have been in new york city watching the ball drop, or i could have been at a party in pittsburgh with old friends. i opted out of both. neither driving 6 hours nor witnessing my friends' drunken state seemed appealing.
instead, i made a salsa last night that i learned in the mission from ricardo. i remember making it with him and wishing we had a food processor so we wouldn't have to hand-chop everything. well, last night we had a food processor, and the salsa was delicious. mom, dad, and i stayed up until one. party at the martins! nah.
with chips and salsa, we sat down to watch the last couple episodes of what mom and dad call "korean pop," a korean historical soap opera.

it ends with the son who became king turning into a tyrant and hand-chopping almost every main character. such a happy show. i did learn the korean word for "what." mu-oht. it sounds like "mora." my mom and dad started saying it, and sure enough it has crept into my speech.
so i went to bed last night with a hint of garlic on my breath and korean on the brain. i hope everyone had a lovely night.
