so i hear

i was listening to 'this american life' on npr the other day and appreciating the medium of radio. i enjoy being entertained by both the written word and by the placement of sounds to propel a story forward while still having the freedom and luxery of adding my own visuals.

have you noticed the bell on my blog? i let it ding in the morning as i get ready. it reminds me of my great grandparents' house in polk, pa. great grandpa charles used to sit on the porch in a brown plastic, fake wicker chair with his fingers interlaced, hands resting on his lap. his house sat on a street that ran right over a creek. we used to go beneath the bridge and find crayfish. it was at my great grandparents' house at their little kitchen table by the window that i first had honey nut cheerios. i remember their distinct sweet honey flavor. man, when i hear a chime and think of that house in polk i see sunlight, taste honey, and feel peaceful.

ding, ding.... ding....

well, hello great grandpa. long time, no see.

ah, man. i remember being so excited to wake up in the morning and find the bowls, silverware, and box of honey nut cheerios that grandma had set out the night before. and i remember she made the most perfect toast ever. it's probably because she loaded it with butter, but it was perfect. and i can just picture grandpa sitting on the porch. taking out his teeth;)
